Review: Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt   Release Date: 4/3/12
Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

My Thoughts:

This is one of those books you want to take your time with and savor it! From the very first page till the last, I was hooked on this fascinating story. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed Grave Mercy.
Ismae is one of my favorite heroines ever. I thought she was a bad ass. Thanks to her assassin training from the convent, she could hold her own in any fight. But that’s not the only reason why I loved her character, I also thought she was incredibly brave and kind.
Duval is officially my new book boyfriend! He was just so kind and honest. I really loved his character! Also, I thought it was sweet the way he protected the duchess. The relationship between those two was truly heartwarming.
One of my favorite aspects of this book was definitely the romance between Duval and Ismae. The chemistry between them was undeniable, sparks flew when they were together!
Overall, I thought this book was wonderful! Robin LaFevers has created such an intriguing world that once this book ended, I was truly sad to say goodbye. Thankfully though, there is going to be another two books in this series. (Yay!) With the second one being called Dark Triumph. I can not wait to read it!
My Rating:
5/5 Stars
