Review: The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

Reading Level: Young Adult   Publisher: Harlequin Teen   Publication Date: 2/1/10
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan’s life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she’s known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth – that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she’ll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

My Thoughts:

I know most people have already read this one, but I’m still going to put in my two cents. This book was freaking awesome!! Seriously. I’m not sure why I waited so long to read it, but I’m so happy I finally got around to it!
First off, I love stories set in fantasy worlds and the world Julie Kagawa has created in this book was just amazing. I loved the Nevernever, there were just so many cool creatures in this world such as Satyrs, Dryads, Sirens… the list goes on. I thought it was a very imaginative world.
For whatever reason, I didn’t care for Meghan very much in the beginning of the book, but by the end I really liked her. I like how devoted and loyal she was to her family and friends.
There was a hint at a love triangle, but it wasn’t the main focus in this book. As of right now I’m Team Ash, there just seemed to be more of a spark between him and Meghan than there was between Meghan and Puck. I loved Puck, I thought he was funny and charming, but he seemed more like a good friend than a love interest.
Overall, I thought this was a fantastic start to a series I just know I am going to love!
My Rating:
5/5 Stars
